Featured Skater | Stephen C.
Stephen started playing ice hockey and ice skating 2 years ago, stepping onto the ice for the first time since his roller hockey days as a kid growing up in southern California. As a professor of economics, his days are filled with equations and theories, far removed from the fast-paced action on the ice. Nevertheless, his passion for the game, fueled by years of watching NHL matches, led him to join the NACHL and take skating lessons with Coach JT. While the transition was challenging initially, Stephen's dedication to practice, paired with patience and expert instruction, has seen him grow increasingly comfortable and confident in his ice hockey skills.
While working with Stephen, I discovered he is enjoyable and engaging. He appreciates my Hank Hill voice impressions and quoting old movies from the 90s and early 2000s. Stephen is a dedicated Star Wars fan, with Cassian Andor being his favorite character.
This is my Third Session with Stephen since we have been working together. He is in the middle of his six lesson set of agreements. So you will see some information from his skating past and watch is progress from here on out.
Free to leave comments and words of encouragement and he grows in his skating development journey.
In the beginning doing - One Foot Balancing Drills on circle.
Session 3 - Les. 2
Today marked Stephen’s second lesson in this ongoing series, and both him and I acknowledged the significant progress he has made. Tasks that once posed challenges for him just a few months ago are now being completed with ease. One notable achievement is his improved ability to skate backwards with minimal issues. His PowerTurns have become tighter, and his crossovers are showing remarkable improvement. We also focused on a series of conditioning drills to prepare him for playing on two different teams, a testament to his dedication and hard work.
Timed Lap: 28.70 (Slightly slower progress this week, but still getting better overall.)
